Meet Joy

Hello, Bedford friends—

I’m Joy Donovan Brandon. I’m enthusiastically running for Place 2 on the Bedford City Council. I’m excited about the possibility of serving Bedford.

I grew up very lucky in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I had wonderful parents and grandparents who shaped me in many ways, including a heart for public service. We were taught to give back to our community in ways we could, sharing our talents and skills with others. To that end, I have long been a supporter of many civic organizations, often serving in leadership positions. From the school booster club president to the Friends of HEB Hospital, I have been active in supporting causes I believe in.

Also, growing up in Tulsa, I was fortunate to enjoy what a well-run city has to offer. I know great streets, beautiful parks, great libraries and--of course, the

police and fire departments—enhance people’s lives. As a Bedford resident of 11 years and a Northeast Tarrant County resident of 30+ years, I want to contribute in the ways I can to make sure our city is a thriving community.

In Bedford, my community service has included serving on the city commissions for Community Affairs, Cultural Arts and currently the library. It has been my pleasure and honor to do so.

Now I would like to go farther in my service. I would like to hold Place 2 on the city council. I have been very pleased with the recent direction of the city council. I feel like much progress was made under the leadership of recently departed city manager Jimmy Stathatos, and as a resident, I’m grateful for that work. If elected, I look forward to participating in the selection process for our new city manager.

Because I’m a married mother of three and grandmother of five, I am looking to the future. “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children,” a quote from Wendell Berry, is a philosophy I hold.
